THE CHALLENGE

The Force Atlantic 21 team has the honour of forming the official British Army Mixed team entry into the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge for 2021. The team of four comprising solely of members of the British Army’s prestigious Royal Army Physical Training Corps will be taking on what is billed as the

‘WORLD’S TOUGHEST ROW’

The 3000 mile race will depart in mid-December taking the team across the North Atlantic Ocean in a 8.5m long rowing boat, unsupported. Taking approximately six weeks this will be the ultimate test of physical and mental endurance. Rowing in gruelling two hour shifts day and night, the team will battle their way through the waves from the La Gomera in the Canary Islands to the beaches of Antigua. Teams will race not only against each other, but against the deterioration of their bodies and minds. Sleep deprivation, blisters and salt sores are just a few of the treats that the team have to look forward to.

THE BOAT

The boat Force Atlantic will be rowing across the Atlantic

The boat is a 8.5m long ocean rowing boat with the ability to have 3 team members rowing at any one time. Each end of the boat has a small 2-person cabin which the team will be accommodated in. With the team being completely unsupported for the duration of the challenge, should anything go wrong onboard the boat there’s only 4 people to sort it out.

To ensure the safety of the team, all members must undertake numerous safety courses and learn how to use and fix all the equipment onboard. If any equipment malfunctions whilst at sea, someone’s got to fix it.
